The Interesting MBA curates 1,000 videos and stories to cover the entire B-school curriculum
Startup No 201
TIMBA (The Interesting MBA) is an online program that teaches the entire Business School curriculum in 1,000 stories and videos available as TED talks, YouTube videos and even TikTok footage. Participants vote for the most interesting material in a "Trip Advisor"-style ratings system that determines whether content remains on the programme or gets dropped. The program hires actors to produce in-house videos on a minority of subjects and theoretical topics that have not been covered on existing platforms. Auditing the TIMBA program is free of charge but participants who want to receive a certificate of completion pay a fee. Such participants are not required to take exames but have to re-watch key parts of the content once or twice again months later, to ensure memory retention in line with the "forgetting curve" timeline.
CEO QUOTE
"Don't we all have horrible memories of the drudgery of school and university courses. TIMBA is the exact opposite: we carefully curate all content and we include only stuff that most participants find not just interesting but incredibly interesting. We also do it in formats that grab you, rather than in ways that torture you. We even toyed with the idea of calling the program MIMBA: the "Most Interesting MBA", but we are not people who blow their own horn," - commented TIMBA founder and CEO Livie Reggeo.
"I sometimes get asked if I would include footage of Kim Kardashian to teach Leadership. And that's a distinct possibility. We encourage participants to propose new content, which would get reviewed by our program board. And if they find sufficient depth and pedagogical value in a piece of content, we add it to the curriculum, starting at the bottom of the stars rating. So if the content is really interesting, participants will up-vote it and it will rise to the top - whereas content that stays at the bottom gets automatically relegated."
These feedback loops are the best thing about TIMBA: all participants have a say in what gets in and what drops out.To put it in images, TIMBA is not your "bread-and-butter" MBA; it is "the cake of MBAs!" - concluded Livie Reggeo.
