SaturnHoops produces wearable crinoline hoops that guarantee social distancing
StartupRealities No 129
SaturnHoops is an equipment maker which designs and produces plastic crinoline-type hoop-skirt frames worn by both men and women for the purpose of adhering to the 2-metre rule of social distancing at outdoor concerts and mass events during the Covid-19 post-lockdown period. The skirt frame, composed of several hoops suspended around the hips, resembles the rings of Saturn which is why both the company and the product were named SaturnHoops. The hoops have a 2-metre diameter and form a protective virtual cylinder around the body that guarantees the person wearing it 2 metres of personal space when everybody else is wearing one. The company has patented its invention as both a garment and a wearable device.
USE AT EVENTS
Wearing #SaturnHoops is mandatory at music gigs, concerts and political rallies as this simple piece of equipment is the only mass device that can guarantee that the 2-metre rule will be maintained. As a result, concert organisers normally need to set up joint-ventures (JV) with SaturnHoops in order to receive permission from public health authorities to run an outdoor event. The company sets up booths at venue entrances and rents out sanitised frames to all attendees who don't have one. SaturnHoops frames are also available for purchase but their large size makes them impractical to carry on public transport, even in folded form. When the hoops of two people touch at an event, an electric signal is generated that emits a beep and a flash of light, as the exterior of the hoops is lined with electricity-conducting low-voltage glow sticks .
CEO QUOTE
"SaturnHoops brings normality to people's lives after the end of the strict Covid-19 lockdown. We all want to be able to spend time outdoors and have fun without health risks. Wearing SaturnHoops makes all this possible, but they are fun to wear as well. We often see friends bumping their hoops against each other and enjoying the beeps and the colourful flashes of light, which are particularly spectacular after dark. I make my friends wear hoops even when we meet for a socially-distant barbecue in my garden," said company founder and CEO Saturnina Hoobs.
